A world through
compound eyes.

Turn the head. Watch the light move across the eyes.
Each facet samples a small patch of the world along
its measured visual axis.

MEASURED AXES, REUSABLE OPTICS

Lens centres and visual axes come from the existing µCT eye reconstruction. Hexagons depict facet samples, not segmented lens boundaries.

Both eyes use the same distant-scene viewpoint. Lens-scale parallax, occlusion by the head, diffraction and temporal phototransduction are omitted in this demonstration.

WHAT THE COLOURS MEAN

RGB is a display aid. Samples are averaged in linear light; the luminance option uses standard RGB luminance weights. Neither view predicts the fly’s spectral responses or ultraviolet vision.

The environment is ray-rendered in 3D. The panoramic overview covers every direction; the camera panel shows only the forward-facing portion. Travel uses arbitrary scene units.
